How To Spend A Weekend In Bantayan

Looking for a quick island escape with powdery white sand, turquoise waters, and laid-back charm? Bantayan Island, tucked off the northern coast of Cebu, is the perfect weekend getaway. With just a short bus and ferry ride from Cebu City, this quiet slice of paradise offers the perfect mix of adventure, culture, and pure relaxation—all within a couple of days.

Day 1: Arrival and Island Life Begins

Start your journey early in the morning by taking a bus from Cebu City’s North Bus Terminal to Hagnaya Port (around 3–4 hours), then hop on a ferry to Santa Fe, the main gateway to Bantayan Island. As soon as you arrive, you’ll be greeted by scenic coastal views, motorbikes for rent, and a laid-back vibe that instantly melts the stress away.

Check into one of the cozy beachfront resorts or guesthouses in Santa Fe, then head straight to the beach. Sugar Beach and Kota Beach are known for their soft white sand and shallow, clear waters—perfect for swimming and lounging.

In the afternoon, rent a bike or motorbike and explore the town. Don’t miss Ogtong Cave, a natural underground pool tucked beneath a resort, or the peaceful Omagieca Mangrove Garden—a great spot for a quiet walk or kayaking. As the sun sets, grab dinner at a beachside restaurant like MJ Square, where you’ll find fresh seafood, pizza, and island cocktails.

Day 2: Culture, Adventure, and Sandbars

Start your second day early with a boat tour to Virgin Island, a smaller island nearby with pristine beaches, snorkeling spots, and a relaxing, unspoiled vibe. You can swim, paddleboard, or just enjoy a picnic on the sand.

Back on Bantayan, take time to visit Bantayan Church (Sts. Peter and Paul Parish) in Bantayan town proper. Built in the 1500s, it’s one of the oldest churches in the Visayas and a glimpse into the island’s rich history.

If you’re up for a little thrill, try skydiving—yes, Bantayan offers one of the few skydiving experiences in the Philippines! But if you’d rather keep your feet on the ground, enjoy a peaceful bike ride along the coast or chill in a hammock under the palms.

Cap off your weekend with a final sunset by the beach, maybe over grilled fish and a cold drink in hand. Then, catch the ferry and bus back to Cebu the next morning—recharged, sun-kissed, and filled with island memories.

A weekend in Bantayan may be short, but the calm, the beauty, and the charm of the island will linger long after you’ve left.
